My name is Vasco Bank’off — a name I chose to write under.
I was born in Moldova, back when it was still part of the USSR. My ancestors — the Bankovs — fled Ottoman rule in Bulgaria and settled in Bessarabia in 1829. That family story shaped me more than I ever admitted.
My real name is Vasily Tuzlukov. But I write as Vasco Bank’off because I needed a name with room in it — for doubt, for irony, for a quieter kind of truth.
I don’t write to teach. I write to understand.
And “The Bankoff Circles” — or “Круги Банкова” — is one way I tried.
